Redburn, Highlands, Inverness-shire.  Property 10775

Weekly bookings Saturday to Saturday only between April and September. Just 8 miles from Loch Ness, an hour from Skye and 35 miles from Inverness, the capital of the Highlands you will find The Linhay. This fresh, newly built annexe to the owners’ home has been designed to give guests privacy, but also an opportunity to quiz the owners about local attractions and to pick their brains about the local birds and wildlife. The nearby river is famous with bird watchers who come to see eagles and ospreys fishing. Around the property many of the local wildlife species have been encouraged to make this quiet place their home, and with the Redburn Café providing excellent food and a lovely atmosphere only 200 yards from The Linhay, there is no need to go far to get a feel for the Highlands. But of course there is more to this location that you will want to explore. Glenmoriston is a river glen that runs from Loch Ness, at the village of Invermoriston, westwards to Loch Cluanie, the world famous Eilean Donan castle, then on to the Isle of Skye. The River Moriston, which in Gaelic might mean "River of the Waterfalls" is a big attraction for fishermen, it crashes over waterfalls at Invermoriston into Loch Ness, passing under an original Thomas Telford bridge, built in 1813. There is a shop and a post office in the village and a hotel which welcomes non-residence for drinks and good food. North from Invermoriston you will find the impressive 13th Century Urquhart Castle, and then Drumnadrochit, where you can find out about the Loch Ness Monster and try a spot of Nessie hunting on a boat trip. At the Southern end of Loch Ness the pretty village of Fort Augustus has the impressive Caledonian Canal Locks rising up through its centre. The village offers many attractions for the visitor, including the British Waterways Heritage Museum and the Clansman Centre for a taste of the history of the area, whilst sporting types can take advantage of its golf course and opportunities for outdoor activities. There are hourly boat trips on Loch Ness and for the more adventurous, a fast RIB service to and from Urquhart Castle. With a good choice of places to eat or enjoy a drink, some with regular traditional music, Fort Augustus is a great place to sip a beer and watch the boats go by. With its ideal location day trips trips to Inverness, Skye and Fort William, The Linhay offers peace, wildlife and easy access in every direction to explore the Scottish Highlands.
