Gate Lodge South is one half of the original Gate Lodge at the entrance to the fantastic Dalmunzie Estate. It is traditionally built in Victorian style with a wonderful turret on the side of the building and set amongst a dramatic backdrop of breathtaking scenery within this 6,500 acre estate. Surrounded on two sides by mature trees with views of the south and east of Glenshee, the cottage also has an enclosed garden.
It is semi detached and spread over one floor. The cottage has 2 bedrooms (1 twin and 1 kingsize), a bath/shower room and an open plan kitchen, dining and living room. Fully furnished and with a lovely modernised kitchen it has double glazing and an open fire with free logs provided.
Glenshee is without doubt spectacular, renowned for its outstanding natural beauty, offering heather clad hillsides, dramatic mountains rich with wildlife (including roe and red deer, birds of prey, etc etc) rivers and lochs with trout and salmon. The surrounding mountains are extremely popular all year round and offer great walking and mountain biking in the summer and skiing in the winter. The estate has its own 9 hole golf course, tennis court, clay pigeon shooting, stalking and grouse shooting. If that is not enough then nearby there are lots of other things to do such as abseiling, climbing, several great golf courses, castles, distilleries and theatres to name but a few. Don’t forget you could just sit in the cottage, maybe in the turret in the sitting room, light the fire and put your feet up with a good book!
Without having to leave the estate you can enjoy the facilities of Dalmunzie House Hotel either for meals or a drink at the bar. Alternatively the nearby Spittal of Glenshee Hotel is open all year round and a very popular spot for visitors particularly walkers and skiers. Visitors can walk and find evidence all around them of Glenshee’s long history and can wander over old sites and gaze upon settlement ruins of those who left long ago. Glenshee translates as Glen of the Fairies and is a magical place, rich in its history and for a thousand years has been Scotland’s hidden route north to the Highlands.
Dalmunzie Estate has been in the Winton family for decades and they are more than happy to arrange additional activities on request and will ensure that your visit is both enjoyable, comfortable and most of all memorable!! The visitor should also be aware that if the fairies like you and cast their spell, then you will be forced to return to the enchanted glen.
