Centrally situated, with the mountainous west coast of Scotland 44 miles away and the wild yet beautiful coastline of Caithness only an hour's drive north, the village of Bonar Bridge lies at a unique focus of the sparse network of Highland roads. Monach Cottage is a perfect place to start your adventures in the North of Scotland. Recently refurbished but with care taken to keep a cosy feel, the cottage is attached to the owners’ house, it provides a comfortable, completely self contained annexe with its own private entrances. Its large kitchen with its farmhouse style table in the middle is a bright and well equipped place to relive the days adventures and its charming living room with its wood burning stove is the perfect place to relax and unwind in. The village of Bonar Bridge offers its own butcher and bakery, and a small shop for basic groceries, on a Tuesday two vans visit one selling fish and the other fresh vegetables. There are a couple of bars and the local bistro is only yards away on the same street. The Sutherland region has many different landscapes all with in easy reach of your cottage, from the rugged, remote Northern coast to its unspoilt, interior populated mostly by deer and then there is the coastal area with Golspie and its fairytale castle of Dunnrobin. Worth a visit both to the castle and its falconry display held in the beautiful gardens, here you will get the chance to learn about this areas rich history, the Dukes and Earls of the region being so much a part of the good and sometimes dark times. The capital city of the Highlands – Inverness – is 40 minutes drive across some wonderful scenery with amazing views of the Kyle and out to the Dornoch Firth. The Kyle is home to an outstanding assortment of wildlife including its resident otters, a huge selection of birds that wade and nest in and around it, visiting osprey and Whooper swans. Many outdoor activities, from easy walks to more adventurous climbs are all found locally, golfers, fishermen and cyclists are all well catered for and if you just want to get away from it all that can be done too.
