This cottage is part of a collection of 12 stone built cottages within 8 acres of grounds of a beautiful Victorian Gothic-revival stately home, complete with a walled garden and croquet lawn. There is a fantastic tree top playground which consists of individual treehouses linked by rope bridges; there are ropes, slides and higgeldy-piggeldy stairs to climb up and down.
The cottage is located in the small village of Ellingham which has a pub serving good food. It is a great location for exploring the Northumberland coast with more castles than any other county in England and the Cheviot hills close by. Newcastle is 45 miles away and 26 miles away is the border town of Berwick upon Tweed and Scotland.
Set midway between Beadnell and Seahouses, the magnificent Heritage coastline is close by with lovely coastal walks. The historic town of Alnwick is only 7 miles away, protected by its dramatic castle ( the ancestral home of the Duke of Northumberland and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy!). It has cobbled streets filled with restaurants, pubs and shops and is definitely worth a visit. Visitors also enjoy experiencing the spectacular ‘Alnwick Garden’, with Grand Cascade Waterfall and a restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe. Whilst nearby is Dunstanburgh, a massive ruined castle which dominates the coastline and recently on ITV's peak time drama series Vera. Warkworth Castle is also only a short drive away. 5 miles away is Bamburgh; its Norman fortress castle towers over the wide sandy beaches and sand dunes of this spectacular coastline.
Seahouses, a seaside village with a little harbour, is a must for tasty fish and chips or kippers. Wildlife boat trips can be taken from here to the Farne Islands to visit the puffins and other seabirds, or a trip to explore Holy Island when the tide is out by driving over the man-made causeway. Golf, fishing and many AONB surround Ellingham.
