Lancashire Holiday Cottages - one's bound to be perfect
Some might think that Lancashire is overshadowed by its Cumbrian neighbour, but those that do are missing out! Lancashire, the Red Rose county, is a diverse and impressive place to holiday. From the beauty of the Forest of Bowland to the fun and excitement of Blackpool and Morecambe Bay. The Forest of Bowland and the Trough of Bowland make up a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty set between the Yorkshire Dales to the east and the Cumbrian Lakes to the west. It is part of the Pennine range of hills and is characterised by sweeping heather moorlands and green famland pastures. A climb to the famous Pendle Hill or the heights of Parlick Fell will give you a birdseye view of the surrounding country side and pretty villages. For a lovely garden walk and views of its magnificent 16th century manor house visit Stoneyhurst College.
The ancient city of Lancaster is the county town and a vibrant university city. Starting life as a Roman Fort in 80AD Lancaster has defended the border counties for centuries and the impressive Lancaster Castle testifies to its military past. In contrast are the historic villages of Arnside and Silverdale, nestling on the Morecambe Bay coastline. Also in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty these villages hark back in time with fishermens cottages and victorian parades. And the area is alive with wildlife from rare butterflies and marshland birds to the rare marsh harriers.
